I Got Paid $20,000 for One Ad...

Well...actually I split the money with my cohort in creativity Jon Lockwood.  We were working at Flint's WCRZ at the time - Jon as the Production Director and myself as lowly copywriter.  The spot was written in the dead of a Michigan January for a sales manager looking to set up a trade account.  Things were extremely slow at the time and I remember telling Jon I was going to write a spot with a naked guy

Surprise! It's Personal

I made a mistake once (hard to believe, I know).  I was working with my biggest client at the time.  Tom was a retailer whose store had reached a plateau in growth and we were deep in discussions about why.  We were looking at everything we could think of to look at; the store had recently expanded, the sales team was stable, sales had grown six-fold in recent years, our marketing hadn't changed, a focus group showed that our brand and message awareness were very strong - and yet we were stuck.
